Russell Evans began his educational career in the Canton Public School District as a basketball coach at Nichols Middle School in 1999. Mr. Evans has been an educator for over 24 years. Mr. Evans spent eight years in the district before returning in 2015. Over his first eight years in the district, Evans served as a seventh-grade Social Studies and Physical Education teacher. Mr. Evans also served as a Physical Education teacher and Head Boys’ basketball Coach at Pearl High School in Pearl, MS, for eight years before returning to CPSD in 2015 as a Physical Education teacher and Head Boys Basketball Coach.
In January 2022, Mr. Evans became Assistant Principal at Canton High School under the leadership of Dr. Pamela Self. In June 2023, Mr. Evans was announced as the Principal of Nichols Middle School.
His educational experience has allowed him to collaborate with diverse people to increase student achievement and well-being. His educational philosophy is based on his uncompromising belief in his faith in God and that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family. All of which the CPSD possesses.
Mr. Evans received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Texas Southern University in 1999. He received his Master’s in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Jackson State University in 2003. In 2021, he received his Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi.
Mr. Evans is married to Cherese Evans, and they have five wonderful children. Chrissy, David Russell, Jalen, Erin, and Kyce.
