Ms. McDonald

Dear parents and guardians,

I am excited to work with you and your child this year!

Who am I?

My name is Nikeisha McDonald. This is my second year at Canton High School and I am loving the kids here.

Teaching Philosophy:  I believe all students can learn if given adequate time and support.  I understand that all students will not be on the same level socially, emotionally, and academically, and it may take different approaches to help each student be successful.  I will consider your child as an individual with unique needs.  I have high expectations for my students in terms of academics, behavior, and responsibility. I am always willing to work with a student who has made mistakes but wants to turn things around.  I believe that it is easier for children to be successful in school when others believe in them. I will do my best to help your child be successful.

Communication:  I want to stay in touch with you!  For the fastest response, please contact me via email.  I check my e-mail as soon as I get to school, before I leave, and multiple times throughout the school day.

For emergency situations, or situations where you would prefer to communicate by phone, please call the office at the high school.  Please understand that I may be teaching a class when you call and may need to reschedule.

Attendance:  Attendance is critical for your child's success in school.  However, sometimes sickness and situations arise.  If you would like to request assignments for your teen, please call and speak with your child's counselor.   I will deliver assignments to the office for you or another family member to pick up so that your child can work on them at home.

Grades:  Parents can check students' grades using Active Parent.   If you do not have a username or password, please contact the office for assistance.

Missing Assignments/Tests:  If a student has not completed an assignment, a mark of an "NM" will be given. An "NM" next to a grade means the assignment is missing and does not harm the student's grade.

If a student misses a test,  a mark of an "NG" will be given.   Students are still encouraged to complete all missed assignments as soon as possible, however,  in order to ensure they do not receive "NG". An "NG" next to a grade means that there is no grade for that assignment and the system accepts this equal to a 0.

Making Up Missing or Incomplete Work:  Students are responsible for all missed assignments and test grades. Any makeup work should be turned in upon return to school. Students should schedule a date and time with me that they can come and take any tests missed in order to receive credit.  I highly encourage all students to complete any and all missed assignments and tests as soon as they return from an absence in order to keep their workload at a steady level and reduce stress for them, as well as me. It is very stressful and ill advised to wait until the week grades are to be posted and sent home (ie progress reports, report cards, etc.) to try to get all missed work submitted.

Thank you,

Ms. McDonald
